A scientific and clinical congress of the International Society of Blood Transfusion covering immunohaematology, donor and blood-establishment operations, clinical transfusion, cellular therapies and haemovigilance. This is the society's 37th Regional Congress, the meeting format it rotates through host cities alongside its larger International Congresses. The programme combines plenaries, parallel science sessions, an education/academy stream and a supplier exhibition at Rotterdam Ahoy.
Blood and its components are a temperature-controlled product class governed by defined storage-temperature bands, validated transport and haemovigilance rules that this congress reviews and advances. Sessions on component storage, cold-chain transport, quality systems and blood supply in low-resource settings feed directly into how blood establishments run and audit their cold chain. It is also where monitoring, packaging and transport vendors serving the blood sector show and benchmark equipment.
The room is transfusion-medicine physicians, blood-establishment and blood-bank directors, immunohaematology and QA/quality staff, donor-management and haemovigilance specialists, and academic researchers. National blood service leadership from Europe and further afield attends alongside regulators and standards bodies. Cold-chain, temperature-monitoring and blood-bag/packaging suppliers populate the exhibition floor.
